Howdy y'all, hope y'all have had a fantastic week wherever you currently reside. It's It's a pretty dope week out here. My mental state has definitely started to become more stable and I'm not worried about the little things that I used to be when I first got here. I'm starting to realize how inspired it really was for me to get sent out here and be where I am. God really is real and He recognizes where we need to be.
Start
it all off with last p-day. All of the people in my area are pretty
spread out, with some of the farthest people in my district live close
to, if not, an hour away from us. Because of that we're only allowed one
district P-day a transfer. We had it last week and it was a blast. We
played lots of actually football and American football. It's great to
actually be able to play sports again with people that actually know
what they're doing. MTC volleyball just didn't cut it sometimes.
We
had an exchange with Linstead this week! Elder Camareno came down to
Portmore and I led out the area for the first time in my month being
here. Elder Camareno is a funny guy though. He's from Costa Rica and he
really got stuck with one of, if not the, hardest English speaking
missions. He's been out here for like 9 months now so his English is
pretty good. But he still doesn't get all the slang we use. I had to
explain to him what "gas" meant when we were talking about food. We also
got really lucky and found some Root beer and Dr Pepper for him to try
for the first time. That stuff is pretty rare out here.
The
one lady that had a vision to come to our church is going really well.
We only could meet with her once this week, but I think we're getting
close to putting her on date, which is super exciting!!
Things I won't take for granted in the states when I'm back:
1. Precut hotdogs buns
2. Running water
3. Carpet
4. Vacuums
Highlights of the week:
Elder
Hafen and Elder Narsimulu hit 6 months on the Mish yesterday. We
partied hard last night with Maltas, tie burning, and photo shoots. See
below for a pic
Walking with a machete around town gets you street cred around here. It will literally do the street contacting for you.
We
had a service project planned that got postponed like 3 times. On the
2nd time we tried to go over we were yelling at their house for them to
come out (don't question it, it's the equivalent of knocking on
someone's door here). I'm holding the machete in my hand, ready to chop
someone's yahd. This guy comes out acting all intimidating, face tats
and everything, looks me straight in the eyes, and asks me what I'm
going to do with the machete, like I'm ready to hurt someone. I told him
we were here to do yahd work for one of the less active members in the
ward, and we had this little back and forth thing going for a little
bit. I was about ready to walk away when he broke character, laughed at
me and dapped me up. I still don't understand this country or the people
in it
Spiritual Thought:
I
got asked to give a talk next week in sacrament meeting. Ya know how it
is, always picking on the greenies. Anyways, I was asked to talk about
personal apostasy and I've been studying and writing it all week.
Something that's always stuck out to me in everything with the gospel is
intent, or desire. If we don't want to get into personal apostasy, we
won't. If we want to get out of it, we will. It all comes down to
whether or not you want to do it. I invite you all to try and have a
little more intent in wanting to learn more in your personal studies, or
in your prayers, or just everything in general. I could go on a lot
longer but I'll save ya that. If ya want to see my whole talk send me a
message and I gotcha.
Bless up me generals
Elder Turnbow
