Wah gwan yall. Another week another email. I hit my 2 month mark earlier this week. 22 more to go. I'm not counting you are
Transfers
are today and it's kind of crazy that my first one is already up. Me,
Elder Stone, and Elder Narismulu are all staying in Portmore. Elder
Hafen is moving out to Dalvey, which is literally in the middle of
nowhere. It's also Elder Stone's last transfer. So I'll be his last
companion as well. They also did some weird things where the Zone
Leaders don't get cars anymore, but the district leaders do. So we're
going to be whipping the truck around this entire transfer. I'm so hyped
for this transfer. I'll definitely miss Elder Hafen though
I'm
doing great out here. I actually can get around my area now and know
how everything works. I can understand and have actual conversations
with most people, except for those extra crazy rasta's that nobody
understands anyways. Only complaint I have so far is that the MTC does
not prepare you for the actual field. They train you to have 15 minute
lessons. Out here, that's just your normal contact. I haven't had a
lesson be shorter than a half hour yet.
Highlights:
Ms.
Dixon got put on date!! We have her down for the 1st of April, which is
her 82nd birthday, as well as general conference weekend. If all goes
goes plan it'll be a crazy day.
President
told us he'd be at our house by 11 am for interviews one day. Didn't
get to our house til 1:30 when we had a lesson at 2. Told us he'd come
back at 3, didn't get back until about 6. Needless to say much didn't
get done that day.
Some of these taxi/bus drivers have literally no taste in music. I've eaten dirt with more taste than their music.
Our
truck were supposed to get had something broken. President gave us the
like 20 seater stick shift bus to drive in the meantime. The Jamaicans
faces when they see 2 "whities" whipping this massive van is priceless
I've
realized how racist Jamaicans are. They talk about how we had slaves
like 200 years ago all the time and yell names at us like "jakes" that I
didn't even know where racial slurs. Jamaicans are way more racist than
any American I've ever met.
Spiritual thought:
Recently
in my free time I've been reading the "Saints" book. If ya haven't read
if yet, I totally recommend it. Banger of a book. Anyways, I'm at the
part where they're building the Kirtland temple and it talks about all
of the hardships they're going through. Financially, mentally, and
physically. It reminds me that if the Church wasn't true, there's no way
it would've lasted as long as it did and grown as much as it has. No
man cares enough about a lie to throw himself and countless others into
life or death situations over and over again. This Church is true, the
Book is blue, and Jesus loves you.
Respec,
Eldah Turnbow
