Wah gwaan mi generals, anoda week pon da work of Jah. Overall pretty solid week, spirits were a lot higher than weeks previous and we got some pretty solid stories for the email this week so my email won't be as bland as they have in the past.
Start
it off at about last Wednesday/Thursday. I went on another exchange
with the Zone Leaders in Kingston. They have such a beautiful area and I
hope that I can serve there someday. We taught a couple of lessons up
in the hills and the view from the top is actually so beautiful. You can
see miles and miles away. Don't even worry pics will be attached. When
my comp came the next day to pick me up, I got informed that some of the
Elders in our district got their water turned off a couple of days ago
and haven't showered in a day or so. So we got to go on the adventure of
delivering them water. On the drive over there, we got pulled over
because Elder Hafen decided to cross the margin on a freeway exit. The
cop was totally about to give us a ticket, but Elder Hafen, being the
genuine he is totally sweet talked his way out of it. The cop asked us
what we were and what we were doing. He answered with the classic "Were
missionaries, and we are here to help others come unto Christ" and
quickly followed that up with "We also do service for the people in
need, so we're delivering this water to some people that need it". We
didn't technically lie, but the cop took the bait and let us go Scott
free.
On Friday we
talked to some people that had been taught by missionaries before in the
past. Talking to them, they just seemed too good. They were so ready to
accept the gospel and everything. I was so genuinely confused on why
previous missionaries has stopped teaching them, but the truth came out.
They turned out to be 7th day Adventists. In case any of y'all have
never talked to them before, they all just love to bash you on why the
Sabbath is on Saturday and not on Sunday. These guys were so nice though
and we had a good discussion about it. They are totally so ready to
accept the gospel, they're just barely missing the mark.
Saturday
was a wack day. We had a solid start to the morning by doing service
for a lady in the ward, but all of our appointments in the afternoon
fell through. So being the good missionaries we are, we decided to go
street contacting. Usually we drive and park the truck somewhere, and
Street contact a loop around it. This time we decided to go on an
adventure since we had all the time in the world to talk to people. So
we left the truck and home and started walking. We were about 30 minutes
away from home when it started sprinkling. We figured that since it was
sprinkling that we'd be fine and continued to walk. About 5 minutes
after we made this move, it started absolutely pouring rain. Lucky for
us, there was absolutely no cover near us at all. So we ran off in a
direction that we hoped had cover. And after a couple minutes of running
in the rain we found some cover and talked to this guy for about 30
minutes until the rain stopped. Elder Hafen showed him a magic trick and
he was absolutely baffled. Then we started the long walk home,
absolutely drenched. Good times, good days.
We
have a mission tour this next week with the Church Historian and an
area 70. Should be hype, especially with the entire mission coming. I'll
let y'all know how it goes this next week.
Spiritual thought:
This
last week I've been studying 3rd Nephi, specifically Jesus' teachings
to the Nephites. What I really enjoyed about this is that this section
really confirms that the Book of Mormon is another witness to the
teachings of Christ. A lot of those teachings are very similar to the
teachings in the Bible, specifically to the sermon on the mount. These
chapters have thoroughly increased my testimony of my Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ. I encourage you all to study them soon.
Respec mi generals,
Elder Turnbow
