Waahh gwaaaann mi generals, what's been popping for yall this week? Shoot me an email and let me know;) Anyways, back to our regularly scheduled program. I tried some new food this week. I has curried goat and stew chicken. Both of them are honestly pretty fire. I don't know what I'm supposed to do when I come back to all the white people food in Utah. This week has been pretty rough to be honest. We've been struggling finding people to teach this last week so we've literally just been walking around every part of our area imaginable. Which created a somewhat decent story
Elder
Hafen and I wanted to explore some of the area more, so we hopped in
our truck and found a little road that goes alongside a river. Some
Jamaicans drove past us and were confused about why we were there. I
don't think they were necessarily mad that we were there, but just
genuinely confused on why 2 white guys that look like they're a part of
the FBI were just driving on some back road. So they started
interrogating us, and the slick guys that we are we just started
speaking complete blasphemy about why we were there. Partially because
we didn't want to get in trouble, and partially because we have been
averaging about 4 hours of walking the streets each day trying to find
people to teach this week. If you haven't done this, you wouldn't know
the absolute boredom that can come from this. So we started telling them
that we were lost and were trying to get to a specific neighborhood
that we knew exactly where it was. They continued to give us the
absolute worst directions to the place. After having some fun and acting
like we don't have a clue about what's going on, they gave up and told
us to follow them. So overall pretty solid experience. Will this come up
at the judgement bar? Possibly, but I hope I'm able to get a good laugh
out of it again.
We
started teaching one of my favorite member's granddaughter. Her name is
Calitra, and she's possibly the smartest 12 year old I've probably ever
met. She literally pulled out a notebook and a pen and started to take
notes on what we were teaching her. I definitely didn't expect that
anyone would write notes about what were saying, but I especially didn't
expect a 12 year old to do it.
I
went on an exchange to Linstead this week, and it's probably the
prettiest area I've ever been to. The area I'm serving in is a lot of
neighborhoods, similar to the states, and nothing at all what the
average person pictures when they think "Jamaica". Anyways, this area is
definitely more jungle and its dope. Don't even worry, I'll attach
pictures below.
Spiritual thought:
I've
got a pretty good story for this week's spiritual thought. Some quick
background info though. The average Elder missionary always has a pen in
their shirt pocket. I don't even really know why, but they do just in
case or whatever other reason. Anyways, somehow my pen just absolutely
blew up and ink got all over my pocket. I put some dish soap on it and
tried to scrub it out, but the Ink just spread even worse. Thank goodness
it was P-Day so I called my dear mother (happy late mother's day by the
way) and she told me to just throw it in the wash and hope for the best.
After a lot of faith, prayer, and a washing machine cycle, I pulled out
my shirt to see the damage. To my surprise, the stain was COMPLETELY
gone. Thank goodness for my &collar shirt that has literally been
sent from Heaven. I bet y'all are wondering, Elder Turnbow, how are you
going to relate this back to the Gospel. Well the Atonement of Jesus
Christ can be applied to the story. Imagine that we're the shirt, sin is
the ink, and that the washing machine is the Atonement of Christ. No
matter how bad we mess up, and how much we sin, as long as we look
towards Christ, use his Atonement, and repent of our sins, we too, can
be made clean. He suffered for every single sin that all of us has ever
committed, and ever will commit, as well as every sorrow we've ever had
and will have. He's literally done so much for all of us, we just have
to look to Him, and throw our shirt in the washing machine, and He'll
forgive you. No matter how bad the the stain is, or how much sin we've
committed. There's ALWAYS a way out.
Thanks for reading, big up pon yuhselves, ya 'ere,
Elder Turnbow
