Wah gwan, whi pri me generals. Hope you all had a fantastic week. Mine was a little more interesting than usual, so I'll hop right into it.
We
had an absolute mess of a schedule the first half of the week.
President originally told us that we were going to have our interviews
on Friday. Then, on Tuesday morning, we found out they were actually
going to be later that day at 1 pm. So were frantically trying to
reschedule/push back appointments for later in the day, and we finally
get it all setup. The house is clean so i don't get chastised again and
we found out at 1:30, 30 minutes after he was supposed to be here(which
is normal. If he was there then, I would've been impressed. He's usually
like 3 hours late.), that he was running behind and wanted to come
later in the day at 5. At the exact same time that we had an appointment
with one of our friends that's really close to being put on baptismal
date. So I'm like "uh no Pres. We need this lesson with this lady". Then
he goes "oh, yes, Elder Turnbow. A lesson with her is very important. I
will come by tomorrow evening at 4:30". We go, "alright great, sounds
amazing. We don't have anything planned for then. This makes it easier
for us us fill out our day tomorrow." Fast forward to 7:30am the next
morning. President calls us up and asks if he can come at 8:30am
instead. Usually, this would've been fine, fantastic even. However, it
happened to be on the one day that we have a lesson at 9:30 am.
Presidents interviews usually take 2-3 hours. Were like, "sure
President, but we have a lesson at 9:30, and it's a half hour walk
away." He goes "oh yes, Elder Turnbow. I will be quick and then me and
Sister Odonkor will drive you and Elder Starling to your lesson." At
this point I don't even care what goes on. I just don't want my schedule
to get messed up anymore. He got there BEFORE 8:30. Which is like the
only time I've ever heard of this happening in the JKM, so I'm quite
impressed, and he only took an hour to do interviews. Which is also very
impressive. What in trying to say here is that Jesus Christ lives, and
miracles still happen in these later days.
On
Tuesday afternoon, before we were throwing our schedule left and right,
we went and did some yard work for a friend were trying to teach. On
the way back home there was a group of like 8 old ladies wearing church
clothes and umbrellas walking down the street. This isn't crazy uncommon
because there's so many churches here and they all have like 12
different services a week. So we pass them by, saying hi as we pass,
just like the good, outgoing missionary that i am, when all of a sudden I
get swarmed. All of them are surrounding me and trying to Preach the
gospel to me. Turns out they were all Jehovah witness missionaries or
something like that. I got a magazine from them, and 2 pamphlets. When I
found out they were JWs, I was honestly excited. Here in Jamaica (for
those of you who don't remember my emails from 6 months ago) they speak
patois and English. Patois is basically sloppy, old fashioned English.
I've seen missionaries get pamphlets from the JWs in patois and I've
always wanted to get my hands on one of them. Today was my lucky day. I
got one about reading "di baibl" and another about "wa yu tingk a-go apm
iina di fyuucha?" Definite highlight of the week.
Thursday
morning, I was brushing my teeth and flossing when I realized that one
of the pieces of my permanent retainer had fallen off of the tooth. I
hurry and called the mish nurse to get that fixed so I don't have to get
braces again when I get home. A couple of hours later, I'm sitting in
this dentist chair, with a lady's hands in my mouth, and I'm not quite
sure knows what she's doing. The office had a sketchy feel. Think of a
like a video game about the zombie apocalypse and you have to hide in
the a building to get out of the way and it turns out to be a dentist
office. That sums it up pretty well. It took her a fat minute glue it
all on, and then shave it down so that I don't bite on it. She just
couldn't fathom that my tooth was hitting the glue and so she tried like
20 different times times shave it down enough so that I wouldn't bite
it. After telling her I was still biting it for the 20th time. She have
up a little bit and shaved a little bit off my bottom teeth so that it
would go past. I mean it worked. I don't bite it anymore. I think my
bottom teeth look the same as they did before as well. Needless to say
I'm praying every day that I never need to go back there.
Last
night for Sunday dinner, the Senior couple invited us and the other
Elders over for dinner before transfers happen this week (I'll let y'all
know news a little bit farther down. I know it's a lot of reading this
week, but bear with me). We had chicken, rice, and mangoes with coconut
milk. Absolute fire.
My
cooking keeps on getting better and better. I had one of the friends
were teaching tell me how to make nice rice and peas. So far its going
pretty good. I keep on forgetting the pimento seeds so I'm sure it'll be
even better when I remember to put those in lol.
Kk
so now we have transfer news. I'll be staying here in the Hopeton area
for another transfer and I'll be getting a new companion named Elder
Senetuer. I don't know much about him, besides that he's from Guadalupe,
speaks French, super giddy, and has the widest hips. Well see how the
transfer goes but I'm excited!!
Spiritual
thought for the day is coming from the bible. I've been trying hard to
keep up with the "come, follow me" program that the church is doing.
Right now we're studying in Acts. Every morning when I sit down and read
it, it just baffles me how similar the church is ran there, to the way
the church is ran here now. And then I realize ITS THE SAME CHURCH!
Jesus Christ reestablished his church through the prophet Joseph Smith
in these latter days and I couldn't be more excited to go and share that
message to everyone I come in contact. I know this Gospel is true, and I
love it with all my heart. If I didn't, I wouldn't be going to crappy
dentists lol.
Love yall n bless up ya 'ear!!
Elder Turnbow
