Wah gwan me generals me deya pon da roads of Hopeton, ya get wah me a say? It's been a solid week to be honest. My new comp, Elder Senateur, is a blast and we have good times. His hip are as wide as I've been told. This week we tried to fit into a taxi that can usually fit 3 people in the back comfortably, 4 uncomfortably (which isn't uncommon). Anyways, there was us, and another guy in the back, and Elder Senateurs hips weren't even touching the seat!
We've
been super busy this week and have been constantly trying to stay on
top of our schedule, which can be really hard. Especially when an
appointment goes longer than you plan, and have to rush the 3 mile walk
back to make it to the next appointment. We've had a couple of those
this week, and they aren't fun at all to say the least. At least the
weather is cool, so it's not too bad!! We're chilling in high 70 degree
weather right now, which is at least 20 degrees cooler than the rest of
the island! All this walking would suck if it was anywhere else.
We
had a pretty cool experience this week with our friend Bev. We went
over on Friday to share a message with her with the senior couple. When
we got there she was feeding her chickens and we could tell that she was
off. So we asked her what was up and she started telling us about all
the challenges that she's facing. She had quite the list and was in
tears by the time time was done. This is the cool part. The night before
during comp study, we had planned a lesson about "finding rest" in the
gospel of Jesus Christ. If we hadn't planned that lesson, there's no way
we could've helped her out the way that we did, or share the scriptures
that we did. The spirit was definitely there and for those of you that
know those moments, they are powerful and life changing. I also had a
thought to give her a priesthood blessing as well. Generally, we're
advised to not give people blessings because it takes opportunities away
from local priesthood holders here, who more times than you'd think,
haven't had a chance to ever give someone a blessing. I decided that
this was a special opportunity that could help her, and wouldn't be as
effective if we waited for a later day. I gave her the blessing, and
dang was it powerful. Everybody says that blessings should be very
spirit led, and I've always kind of struggled with doing that. This time
was different. I was saying things that I probably never would of said
if it was just me giving the blessing. The words were just coming out of
my mouth and the spirit was just so powerful. By the time we were done
and leaving, Bev was smiling and laughing. I love this Gospel so much!!
Elder
Senateur and I also gave talks this week in church. It's apparently the
Hopeton Branch tradition that the missionaries speak every 5th Sunday,
and they let us pick our topics as well. I decided to speak on
conversion. I didn't know this until we got there, but my comp, and the
stake President from the Kingston stake who just happened to be in town,
had the same idea I did. It ended up being super spiritual and i think
the branch enjoyed it too. The spirit ended up swaying my talk to
"convert yourself to convert others" type of thing and then we sang
"called to serve" for the closing Hymn and it was perfect. My favorite
recent convert Neezhan, got the aaronic priesthood yesterday and I'm
super hyped for him. He just turned 12 a couple months ago and he
finally got it. I'm super excited for him to pass the sacrament next
week!!
Spiritual thought:
all of the people in the scriptures were just ordinary people before
they became converted to Christ. After After become converted, they
became amazing prophets, apostles, and overall disciples of Christ. As
we devote ourselves to learn more about Christ and His restored gospel.
We can become amazing disciples as well. I've seen it to be true
throughout my mission. I've changed to become a better disciple of
Christ than I could've imagined, and I've still got a long ways to go!!
