This week was interesting but not interesting
We had a hurricane come through the Caribbean this week, and it got pretty close to Jamaica. The eye of the storm was originally supposed to come through pretty close to where my area is, but after a while it dropped down to below the island. We didn't get hit very hard here. It mostly was just a really bad rainstorm with some winds. Wasn't anything like I expected a hurricane to be. The worst thing that happened was that our power went out for about 20 or so hours. Other parts of the island got hit pretty hard though. One apartment got its rough thrown off. Other areas have been without running water and electricity for half a week or so now and don't have any sign of coming back in the next couple of days. We played a lot of card games during the day or so that we were locked in, and a fat 3 hour nap. Sleeping without AC in the Jamaica heat/humidity is not fun. 10/10 would not recommend.
Other highlights of the week was that nothing else really happened. We have 7 Elders going home on Wednesday this week, and so a lot of our free time with power was spent planning out where their companions were going, how they were going to get to Kingston, etc. We also spent a lot of time making sure that everyone in the mission was safe from the effects from the hurricane.
All in all we probably had like 5 in-person lessons this week, but I know that the Lord blesses the efforts we put in. Even with everything going on this week, we were still able to have 8 friends pull up to church. This is a huge miracle. I've only had this many friends come after a hard week of grinding and everything working out perfectly the way we wanted it to.
We were teaching a friend after church, and she was telling us about a bad experience she had during the week. After she finished her thoughts and as a member was speaking, she was leaning back and forth with her arms brushing her legs up and down, and her breathing was getting heavy. kinda weird, but it was kinda hot in the room so I didn't question it. Then all of a sudden she just starts like seizing and stomping and eventually stands up while her body is just shaking all over the place for like 20 or so seconds. My comp and I look at each other like what the heck is happening. I thought she was actually having a seizure for a second. Then I realized that some people here believe that's how you feel the holy spirit. Kinda interesting. The funny thing was that nobody batted an eye about what had just happened with 20 or so people in the room. Only in Jamaica.
I love you all! Thank you to everyone that reached out to me!
Big up yuhselves,
