Oops I did it again

Sorry to all the avid Elder Turnbow weekly letter readers for missing another one last week. However these last 2 weeks have been a grinder. The week of the October 14th, Elder Lassche and I grinded it out. Since we started doing weekly averages to calculate monthly goals, it's been a lot easier to recognize what needs to get done in the month to get consistent growth. We were falling behind the first 2 weeks of the month so we knew that we needed to have a big week to bring our averages back up. So that's exactly what we did. Probably  the highest key indicators I've gotten in a while that were actually quality. Doing that and preparing for a new transfer was crazy, but we got it done.

This last week was still just as crazy. We somehow got 15 missionaries arranged to come into Kingston to do all their departing things before they actually went home. That was the largest group I've done so far and I'm impressided that it went as smoothly as it went. Instead of going to a restaurant for a last supper, President invited all the missionaries over to the mission home to have a home cooked meal by Sis Britton and to do family home evening with his family since his kids are 13 & under. It was actually a really fun experience and I really do appreciate the example that he set to prioritize family home evening every week no matter what comes up. I hope he continues to do that.

I also received transfer news that I'll be going to Harbourview for the last transfer of my mission to escape the office and to train a new Elder named Elder Meservy from Canada. The area is still in Kingston, and even in the same branch that I used to be in, just on the other side. Later on in the week we had a miscommunication with President so we ended up planning the rest of the transfer logistics super last minute, which involved it not be nearly as effective as it could've been. This means that Elder Lassche and I had to go run to Mandeville by 5:30am (We woke up at 2:45) to pick one Elder up and to leave for Junction after that to pick up another 2 Elders. On the way to the second pick up, the maps sent us to go drive through the bush, which was the wrong way to go. We ended up going off roading for a second and having to back up in a crowded 1 way road for a couple 100 yards so we could turn back around. We ended up getting to Junction alright, but it took a bit longer than we anticipated. I was able to get one last monster run before I got transferred to my new area and wouldn't be able to get another one for the rest of my time in Jamaica. After that, transfers ran pretty smoothly.

The last like 4 days have been a lot different than I'm accustomed to. It's my first time not being in a leadership position in over a year so there's a lot more time to just work and not have to worry about doing different things. Our area is kinda long so taking taxi's around is kinda awkward and not really convenient, but we're able to manage it. The Elders before us didn't leave us with too many progressing friends, and bunch of people that are supposedly interested, but some of them haven't been contacted in about a month. We're going to get after it and get it all figured out though.

It's crazy that I'm on the last transfer of my mission. Sometimes it hits really hard that I go home in a little over a month and it scares me. However I know that the Lord will be able to magnify my efforts as I focus on doing His work for the remaining days left instead of my own will. It's been more difficult than I anticipated it being to not think about home and just get to work. Getting trunky and not wanting to work is probably my biggest fear right now, but I'm sure that I'll manage.

I'm so very grateful for the gift of the Atonement of Jesus Christ that allows me to be forgiven of all my sins and allows me to change. Without this gift, I wouldn't be able to become the man that I want to become. Helaman 5:10-11 really stood out to me these last couple of weeks. Go give it a read.

Bless up,
Elder Turnbow
