Teaching a Deportee camp

Wah gwan family. I hope that life has been going absolutely splended for everyone as always. This week was a little rough. We started off strong and found tons of people that I thought were dope, but basically all of our return appointments fell through later on in the week, and none of them were as dope as I thought and hoped they would be. Because of this, we had a lot of days where we just went finding all day long.

Highlights:
- We got a Facebook referral on Tuesday named Dechanel wanting to learn about the Book of Mormon. She was shocked when we called her within literally minutes of her filling it out. However, I think it was mostly because she didn't think it was real. There are a lot of scammers in Jamaica, so I don't blame her. However, she's actually so dope. She ate up the Book of Mormon and actually accepted a baptismal date on our first lesson in person. Only like 1 time in my entire mission has that happened, and they probably stopped progressing by the end of the week. However, Dechanel is dope! She's eating up the Book of Mormon and got really well fellowshipped at church (even though she only came for the last 15 minutes of Sunday School) She's definitely going to be one of the people that gets baptized this transfer.

- A bro that we met earlier on in the week invited us to come and talk to a group of like 20 people that apparently all had questions for us. I was going into this expecting to be harassed uncontrollably. It turned out that the original bro, named Fidel, just got deported from America recently and all the friends he had were in a deportee camp ( a place for deportees that don't really have anything going on for them). It didn't hit until we showed up to the place that people don't just get deported casually, and that they usually have some sort of problem that gets them sent away. In the case for this center, it was mostly for drug abuse from what I could tell. I have only seen like inpatient centers in movies and the vibe was pretty similar to the place that I ended up at. All 20 people weren't lined up like I was expecting, but instead just 2 people that were not very "there" at the moment. Needless to say we left a couple pamphlets and were in and out in no more than 10 minutes.

- My relationship with the Branch President, President Pryce, has like skyrocketed exponentially in the last week. We had a weird relationship that I honestly could've done a lot better job at trying to improve for the first like 2 months that he was called, but now we're back on track. We've got a lot of work to do in the branch since President Pryce, and our EQP are on temporary assignment from the stake for a year and they both have about 8 months left. This branch is barely surviving as it is, even  with their help. Somehow it's supposed to function and thrive by the end of the 8 months. However, I know that all things are possible through the Lords help, even when it may seem impossible. Especially since we need a bare minimum of like 12, but preferably 22 more, active participating Melchizedek priesthood holders that have the mindset of growth that will help the branch grow to be a ward, and not die off even more. We definitely have our work made out for us. Only 4 more weeks to do it though so I gotta go out swinging

Honestly, that's about it.

Spiritual thought:
I've studied the topic of repentance pretty thoroughly this week and the weeks past. One of my favorite aspects of it is the ability we have to learn heaven through it. On our own in the natural world, we are unable to live there. With the Savior's help and consciously looking to be the best I can every single day, I am able to become someone ready to live in heaven like our Savior

Big up,
Elder Turnbow
